An Easy Protein-Packed Addition to Breakfast
Bagel lovers, I’ve discovered a homemade recipe that will make you question ever buying store-bought bagels again. These Greek yogurt asiago bagels are simple to make, packed with protein, and can be customized to your taste. Best of all, they use just two main ingredients: non-fat Greek yogurt and self-rising flour! If you’re a busy mom like me, you’ll appreciate how quick and wholesome these bagels are. Let me show you how to whip them up!
Yield: 4 Bagels
Ingredients:
- 1 cup non-fat Greek yogurt
- 1 cup self-rising flour (or make your own: mix 1 ½ tsp baking powder and ¼ tsp salt with 1 cup all-purpose flour)
- Topping: thinly shredded asiago cheese
Instructions:
Combine the Greek yogurt and flour in a bowl. Mix and knead until you form a soft dough ball. It may be sticky at first, but don’t worry, that’s normal.
Lightly flour your surface and knead the dough for a minute or two. Divide it into four equal parts.
Roll each portion into a ball, then with your thumb, poke a hole in the center to shape it like a bagel.
Brush with egg wash and sprinkle on the asiago cheese (alternatives to the cheese --- sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or everything bagel seasoning).
Place the bagels in the oven 350°F for about 25 -- 30 minutes, flipping them halfway through. Depending on your oven, you may need to adjust the time slightly.
Once golden and crispy, remove and let them cool before slicing and enjoying with your favorite spread.Â
These bagels are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside—the perfect texture. And the smell in my kitchen while these baked was absolutely AMAZING! Enjoy!
