Elle's First Dance Class

little girls dace class ready

There’s something about a first dance class that feels like a big deal! Tiny shoes, a tutu that somehow makes everything feel official, and a little person who suddenly seems very sure of herself.

We actually tried dance a few months ago, but Elle was still feeling shy then. She liked the idea of it, just not quite the reality. So we paused and waited.

This time, she was ready!

The morning started with excitement instead of hesitation. Elle carefully pulled on her leotard, fluffed her tutu, and stood still long enough for her hair to go into a bun — a small miracle in itself. She kept checking herself in the mirror, clearly pleased with the whole situation.

Her ballet slippers and tap shoes were lined up nearby, both brand new and waiting their turn. She slipped them on, practicing tiny steps around the room.

A few magical snaps:

Her dance bag was packed and ready by the door — pink gingham with a bow, filled with all the things she felt were absolutely necessary. Her doll came along too, dressed for dance and tucked inside, because no first day feels complete without a familiar face. I’ve shared links to each of these pieces below for anyone putting together their own first dance bag.

One of the best parts was that Elle had a built-in buddy. She was in class with one of her best friends and classmates, Mia, which made everything feel easier right from the start. So when it was time to drop her off, I expected a pause or at least a quick look back. But she walked straight into class without turning around.

No hesitation. No nerves. Just a little girl who was very ready to be there.

I’m excited to watch dance become something she grows into over time — something that builds confidence, coordination, and joy in small, steady ways. Whether she sticks with it for a season or for years, I love that this is an activity she’s learning to try at her own pace and truly enjoy.
