A Snow Day to Remember

Light snow - big fun!

We went into February 1st expecting a big Virginia snowstorm. Forecasts were dramatic, plans were adjusted, and the anticipation was high. But like so many winter predictions here, the snowfall turned out to be light—quiet, gentle, and just enough to give the kids a snow day to remember.

The snow wasn’t deep, but it was enough to turn our world white and give the kids what they really wanted: a snow day. One full day where school paused, routines softened, and time slowed just a little.

The kids bundled up and ran outside over and over again. They played with neighbors, chased each other through the yard, tested how slippery the sidewalks were, and laughed in that carefree way that only happens when the day has no agenda. Snow pants came on and off more times than I can count.

Inside, we warmed up with hot chocolate and cozy clothes. There was noise and mess and togetherness—the good kind. The kind that reminds me why I love documenting these small, ordinary moments. Not because they’re extraordinary, but because they’re fleeting.

This wasn’t a major storm. It didn’t make headlines or cancel the week. But it gave us a memory. A pause. A day that felt like childhood.

I took these photos to remember what this season looked like for us—three kids, a light dusting of snow, and a whole lot of togetherness.
